Carlos Mendizabal is the Chair of the Association of Steel Distributors (ASD). The Association of Steel Distributors (ASD) Steel Executive of the Year award is the most distinguished honor in the steel distribution industry. The award was created in 1956 by ASD to recognize individuals who have made lasting contributions to the industry over a significant period of time.

Rockford, Ill.-based Fabricators & Manufacturers Association Intl.® (FMA) has been selected to manage the Association of Steel Distributors (ASD). The Chicago-based ASD continues to operate as an independent association, but relies on FMA for management of its day-to-day affairs, membership relations and development, event planning, compliance and reporting issues, and general operation needs.
