Frank Zimone is the Executive Director of the Society of Vacuum Coaters (SVC). Having spent the bulk of his career as a technologist masquerading as an agent of change, he had been delighted to see that these very same skills can be applied to the reinvention of my beloved Society of Vacuum Coaters (SVC). SVC 2.0 (as we fondly refer to our reinvention) has been an exciting journey with a great team that simply takes the concept of “not knowing what they don’t know” and turning that into innovation!
The Society of Vacuum Coaters (SVC) is a non-profit organization whose vision is to be the global source for learning, applying and advancing vacuum coating, surface engineering, and related technologies. Our mission is to promote technical excellence by providing a global forum to inform, educate, and engage the members, the technical community, and the public on all aspects of vacuum coating, surface engineering and related technologies.
Founded in 1957, the SVC draws on the volunteer efforts of an incredibly diverse group of international entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers, researchers, technicians, and sales professionals who all recognize the unique spirit of technical brotherhood that embodies the soul of this amazing organization.
Every year the SVC holds a six-day event (which we affectionately call the “TechCon”) consisting of a series of tutorials, technical presentations, industrial workshops, networking events, and an international trade exhibition. Our educational program is generally regarded was the industry benchmark with over 50 in-person tutorials and almost two dozen streaming on-demand subjects. Speakers and attendees at SVC events are exposed to a broad international audience in the thin film coating and surface engineering communities.
