Klaus Estenfeld is the President of the Association for Standardization of Automation and Measuring Systems (ASAM). On March 21, 2023, Dr. Klaus Estenfeld has been awarded honorary membership of ASAM e.V. during the ASAM General Assembly. With this award, ASAM honors Dr. Estenfeld for his commitment and achievements in promoting ASAM and its standards.

From 2016 to 2022, Dr. Klaus Estenfeld served as Executive Director of ASAM e.V. and as Managing Director of ASAM Japan G.K. During this time, he drove the internationalization of ASAM, especially in Japan, China, and the USA. He entered into a partnership with CATARC ADC in China and established the C-ASAM working group.

ASAM e.V. is a non-profit organization that promotes standardization in automotive development. Together with its more than 400 member companies, ASAM develops standards that enable easy exchange of data and tools within and across tool chains. ASAM standards span a wide range of use cases in automotive Verification and Validation (V&V) and are in use worldwide.

The ASAM OpenX® standards in particular aim to provide a complete set of standards for Simulation-based testing of automated driving functions. They cover a wide range of use cases for virtual development, including hybrid testing approaches that combine virtual and physical components. ASAM OpenX standards are gradually becoming the industry’s reference for their respective use cases and are supported by a majority of Simulation tool providers and manufacturers worldwide.

ASAM Standards benefit all stakeholders. They drive comprehensive requirement discussions, enable OEMs to reduce costs, and open up markets for tool vendors. By developing the standards together, all stakeholders benefit from sharing know-how and reducing development risks.
